Barclay lake

A trip report for Barclay Lake
Posted by bgus
Road Issues: Road is great
Trail Condition: Easy to navigate
Bugs: Not an issue
Snow Level: No snow

This was our first hike-in camping experience with the kids. I took our 3-year old and 6-year old. Two mile hike in was doable for them. We set up camp at the lake in a sandy area, there were a couple other families in the area. The sun setting on Mt Baring was gorgeous. In the morning the kids played at the lake in the mud (lake level is relatively low). The hike out was good, but there are a lot of people who visit for the day this time of year (The parking area was packed with cars). My 6-year-old daughter needed a break before we finished the hike, but after a 20-minute reset she was fine. The kids were exhausted afterwards.

There weren't many mosquitoes.

The gravel road coming in was in pretty good shape.

The temperature at night got down to 58 degrees, but this weekend it was unseasonably warm.

Overall this was a beautiful hike and a great one for the kids if you are breaking them in. We will go back there.

Our biggest issue was finding food on the way to the hike. We planned to eat an early dinner at the Almost World Famous General Store in Baring and then hike to the camp site. When we got there we found out they didn't survive the winter. The one place in Index was closed at that time as well. We finally found a place back in Sultan to dine at. It added a lot of driving to the trip.

This is awesome! I've been wanting to do this with our kids this summer too. Thanks for posting. BTW, is that chocolate shop in Sultan still open?
